1980s Restoration
In 1980, the Claiborne Kyle Log House was in a state of deterioration when it was deeded to Hays County along with approximately 1 acre of land. At that time, an independent Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission was appointed to direct the restoration and maintenance of the house, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

Thanks to a generous donation from Emmett and Miriam McCoy, the restoration was completed in 1982. Since then, it has been preserved by the Commission and periodically opened to the public for tours and educational programs.
