Future Plans

The Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission will soon be making some necessary repairs and performing routine maintenance so that the house can be reopened to the public.

Our vision for the site’s future includes:

  • Conducting archaeological investigations to determine the locations of historic outbuildings and the former living quarters of people who were enslaved on the property

  • Reinterpreting the interior of the house to focus more on the Kyle family’s legacy and developing additional interpretation around mid-19th century ranching in Hays County

  • Reinstating the connection between the house and the Blanco river bluff to give visitors a better understanding of why Kyle chose this site for his ranch house

  • Creating a walking trail connecting the house to the nearby Kyle Cemetery and the sidewalk along Old Stagecoach Road to Five Mile Dam Park, integrating the site into the future Emerald Crown Trail (a proposed trail system that would link Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, and areas of Hays County with trails in Austin, New Braunfels, and San Antonio)
